The Raytrace Project
The following images are created by a raytracer, which I developed as a student in 1991.
- The raytracer was developed with Turbo Pascal under DOS. It had only 13400 lines of code. For historians: you download it here.
- Under DOS only 640k were available, thus I developped an own virtual memory mechanism.
- In order to speed up the computations, machine code was integrated inline into the Pascal procedures, especially to execute floating point operations.
For pictures with 1024 x 768 pixels, the execution took approx. 20 hours with the 12 MHz CPU used at this time.
Compared to nowadays raytracers, the following images only have historic and idealistic value.
